How to make Fried Chicken and Milk Gravy
The next time you have a craving for fried chicken, skip going to a restaurant and try making it in the comfort of your own home. Making your own homemade chicken will save you money and you can personalize it to your own taste. Old fashion milk gravy goes well with fried chicken and can be made with just a few ingredients.

- 3 lbs. chicken pieces
- 2 1/3 cups flour
- 2 large mixing bowl
- 1 tsp. black pepper
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 tbsp. season salt
- 1 tbsp. paprika
- 2 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- Large skillet
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- Wisk
- Tongs
- Plate
- 1/3 cup chicken drippings
- Small sauce pan
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 1/3 cup milk

Rinse and pat dry 3 lbs. chicken pieces. Put chicken to the side.

Pour 2 cups flour in a large mixing bowl.

Add 1 tsp. black pepper and 1 tsp. salt to the flour.

Add 1 tbsp. season salt and 1 tbsp. paprika to the flour. Set the flour bowl to the side.

Pour 2 1/2 cups vegetable oil into a large skillet. Place the skillet on a stove top set to a medium-high heat setting.

Combine 1 egg and 1/2 cup buttermilk in a second large mixing bowl. Use a whisk to thoroughly combine the ingredients.

Place the chicken pieces in the bowl with the flour. Move the chicken around until it is completely covered with the flour.

Dip the chicken into the egg mixture. Then return the chicken to the bowl with the flour. Coat the chicken with the flour.

Use a pair of tongs to place the floured chicken pieces into the large skillet.

Place the lid onto the skillet and let the chicken cook for about 15 minutes.

Remove the lid from the skillet a turn the heat setting down to medium. Use the tongs to turn the chicken over and let it cook for another 20-25 minutes.

Use a pair of tongs to remove the chicken from the skillet and place each piece of chicken on a plate. Allow the chicken to cool down slightly.
Milk Gravy

Pour 1/3 cup drippings from the chicken into a small sauce pan.

Simmer the chicken drippings on medium heat for 4-5 minutes.

Add 1/3 cup flour and 1 tsp. salt to the small sauce pan.

Pour 1 1/3 cup milk into the sauce pan. Use a whisk to blend the ingredients. Simmer for 8-10 minutes.

To prevent uneven cooking, avoid overcrowding the skillet with too many pieces of chicken at the same time.
To avoid unexpected burns, beware of hot cooking oil splashing from the skillet.
