How to Paint a Faux Stone Arch
A stone arch over a doorway gives a quaint, appealing look to any decor. Building a stone arch or attaching faux stone facades to an existing wall can be an expensive project. Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- 5-gallon bucket all-purpose joint compound
- Trowel
- Spatula
- Plastic buckets
- Old baking tin
- Sandstone yellow oil paint
- Gray oil paint
- Paint thinner
- Glazing liquid
- Paintbrush
- Rags
- Artist's brush

Measure and draw an arch with a pencil on the wall. Hang the pencil with a piece of string in the middle of the doorway. Hammer a tack where you want the center of the arch. Draw the curve of the arch.

Spread the joint compound over the arch using the trowel and spatula. Try to maintain an even thickness.

Press the old baking tin on the wet joint compound. Keep pressing every ½ inch till the joint compound resembles rows of stones. Mark the grout lines of the stone using the spatula. Leave the compound to dry completely.

Pour 1 part yellow paint, 1 part thinner and 1 part glazing liquid into a plastic bucket and mix well. Paint the arch with the yellow color completely. Glaze the wall using a rag dipped into a little thinner.

Mix the gray paint. Paint the grout lines with the gray paint once the yellow paint dries completely. Use the artist's brush to paint the grout lines gray.
