Theft of laptops is on the rise. As more and more people travel with their portable pc's it has become a target of theft that can leave you without not only your computer, but the data that it contained. Read on to find out how to help prevent your laptop computer from being stolen.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Keep your laptop computer on your person when at all possible. When traveling, do not check your laptop as luggage, put it in your carry on luggage.

  2. Step 2

    Leaving your laptop pc in a vehicle is an easy target for thieves. If you have to leave your laptop computer in a vehicle, make sure the vehicle is locked, put it in the trunk of the vehicle and lock it.

  3. Step 3

    You can have your laptop etched with a police traceable identification number in the event your laptop is stolen, it will help aid in the recovery of your pc. Install software such as computrace on your laptop computer. This software "checks in" when the computer has an internet connection that traces the location of the device, so in the event it is stolen, the police can be notified of where it is online from.

  4. Step 4

    Install drive encryption on your laptop, this will help prevent thieves from viewing potentially sensitive data housed your computer.
