Prevent Split Ends and Breakage

Haircare is so important to keep up with, especially when you have long hair. Split ends are more common than you would like to believe. Dry, split ends usually develop in colored hair, and hair that is styled regularly by heat-styling tools and blow dryers. It's hard to avoid them and harder to get rid of. You can trim, condition, and baby your hair all you want - they might still be there. Here are some simple, effective and easy ways to help fight those pesky split ends and help prevent them.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First off, you should know that cutting split ends off is the BEST and most effective way to get rid of the rough, dry, brittle hair. It's best to go get a trim about every 2 months, at least if not sooner. Always get about a half of inch to 1 inch trimmed off. This will make your hair seem so much smoother and polished.

  2. Step 2

The next thing that help cure split ends is deep conditioning for your hair. Yes, we all condition in the shower - and that's great. Keep doing that. Also remember to use a DEEP CONDITIONING treatment once a week such as hot oil treatments or a hair mask. There are many options out there for deep treatments.

  3. Step 3

When styling your hair with a blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, or any other heat based tools, remember to use a HEAT PROTECTANT on your hair. This can help prevent as much as 40% of all damage done to your hair. Try going natural sometimes, or use velcro curlers instead of an iron. Get it a rest every now & again.

  4. Step 4

Be safe when coloring hair. If your roots only need a touch-up, only do your roots. Don't keep apply the hair to all of your hair if only your roots need it. If your coloring all of your hair, avoid prolong use of the color. Only leave it on for as long as it says. Try not to spend 10 more minutes than needed with those chemicals in your hair.

  5. Step 5

When combing your hair out after showering, always remember to use a WIDE TOOTH comb to get all the tangles out. This will help not break off fragile hair while trying to get tangles out. Never use a brush on wet hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Olive Oil as a deep treatment. Simply heat some up in the microwave and apply it to your hair. Wrap your hair up in a towel for about 30 minutes and viola - hot oil treatment at home!
  • If you don't have a heat protectant spray, simply just use a tiny bit of conditioner on your ends while styling.
  • Avoid bleach at all costs. If you want blonde, go to a stylist which can professional color your hair.
