Advertise your Rental in a Newspaper

Advertising starts with the newspaper. Though most households have internet access, not all of them do, so why not reach everyone who may be looking for a new home? Newspaper ads are very effective and often, with the listing, you may receive free internet ads on the paper's website- double the ads for one low price! Make the most of your money by planning your ad!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Depending on your locale, the newspaper you choose to advertise in may vary. Typically you have one major paper and several local; opt for the local to begin with because the ad space is more affordable and you are targeting people who are already familiar with the area.
If the response is low after several publications, advertise in the major regional newspaper. Remember that while a major newspaper ad may be expensive, it is far cheaper than your property sitting empty month after month.

  2. Step 2

Choose your ad type: Display or Classified.
While expensive, display ads are far more effective and eye-catching than classifieds. Choose to use display ads only on Sundays as more people often read Sunday papers as opposed to daily.

  3. Step 3

Place blank lines between each line of the ad. This will get the attention of the reader who scans across the jumbles of letters. It breaks the lines apart and makes it easier to read.

  4. Step 4

Always include the location, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, furnished or unfurnished, major features, utilities included amenities, monthly rental amount, and your telephone number.

  5. Step 5

When your ad first appears in the paper, check it to ensure that the info is correct.
