Step 1
Skirt suit.Have at least one or two skirt suits in your wardrobe. This is professional and feminine at the same time and will be useful for those days when you need your business experience and womanly knowledge to shine through. Being feminine isn't a weakness, sometimes it's a wonderful asset.
-
Step 2
A pantsuit is essential. You can use these for interviews, formal meetings, or simply when you need that polished, professional look. Look for a nice-fitting but not tight suit. Basically, you want that tailored look without the price and hassle of getting it tailored. It should fit nicely around your curves without extra fabric and without being too clingy.
-
Step 3
A work appropriate dress.Have some professional looking dresses. Thanks to TV shows like "Mad Men" the secretary style dress is back in style and available just about anywhere on any budget. (the pictured dress, was purchased at Target). Wearing a dress lends to a professional, yet feminine, look and will make you stand out from the other women in your office.
-
Step 4
Have a few jackets and blazers. These can turn any pant, skirt, or dress into work-appropriate attire. If you usually dress casually to work in pants or a skirt, keep a jacket on hand in your office for any unexpected meetings where you would be required to wear a suit.
-
Step 5
Use colors wisely. You don't have to stick with the same drab colors of grey, black, and brown. Stay away from really bright colors but don't avoid colors entirely. The pictured shirt adds color to a brown pair of pants or skirt. Choose mild colors for a fashionable look.
-
Step 6
Layer your clothes. This is another look that is "in" right now. You can make your outfits more interesting by layering your tops. This doesn't mean just a sweater with a blouse underneath. Try more creative ways, maybe even tying a silk scarf around your neck.
