Applesauce is a healthy snack, and it is fun and easy to cook with your kids. By having your kids involved in the cooking process, they are more likely to eat the resulting food. This can be a learning experience for your kids, and encourage them to eat healthy food.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • apples
  • water
  • masher
  1. Step 1

Let your kids pick out the apples while you are at the store. Let them choose different varieties and colors of apples, and don't be too worried about getting the recommended variety for cooking applesauce.

  2. Step 2

Have the kids wash the apples.

  3. Step 3

Peel, core and chop up the apples. If your kids are too young to do this safely, you should do this step yourself.

  4. Step 4

Put the apples in a pot of water, and boil them until they are very tender. Drain the water. You may want to do this step if you have young kids, so they do not get burnt.

  5. Step 5

Let your kids mash the apples with a potato masher until they have achieved their desired consistency, whether it is chunky or smooth.

  6. Step 6

Serve the applesauce that your kids prepared and cooked, and eat it while it is still warm. For an extra treat, you can sprinkle cinnamon, brown or white sugar on their applesauce.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let your kids perform the steps that are appropriate for their age. If they are too young to use a knife or boil the water, do it yourself.
