Stop Razor Nicks From Bleeding, or Even Your Dog's Nails If You Cut Too Short make your own styptic powder

ever get nicked by a razor and needed to stop the bleeding, instead of using a little piece of Kleenex, I have something that works even better, and instantly too. It also works for your pet's nails, if you accidently get too close to the quick, you can use this and it will stop the bleeding.
Styptic powder is made out of Alum or Titanium Dioxide.
This is how you can make it yourself!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Alum
  • Water
  • a little bottle
  1. Step 1

Alum can be found in any spice aisle at the grocery store

  2. Step 2

get your alum and mix equal parts of alum and water into your little bottle, you can make it 1 T at a time, since you don't need very much.

  3. Step 3

    shake to dissolve it

  4. Step 4

once dissolved it is ready to use, simply dab some of this onto a piece of Kleenex and hold there, it will shrink the capillaries that are bleeding. I have used this many times and it works great.

  5. Step 5

For Dogs Nails, DO NOT use it diluted, pour some granules out of the bottle and put your dogs nail into the powder, or you can grind some the of the granules up of the alum, since they are larger, and make a fine powder then dab that powder straight onto the nail. This has been a fast remedy for the times when I have cut too short on the nail, and a great alternative to styptic powder if you are out.

Tips & Warnings
  • if your pets nail keeps bleeding, and styptic powder is not working, you have cut it way too short, only you know if you need a vet's help, but you can cauterize the nail as well....get something like tweezers, and hold this under a flame to get it hot...not red hot, but very hot close to red, then dab that on your pets nails to stop the bleeding, might take a couple seconds, and don't be surprised if you see a little more blood while cauterizing. I have done this in an emergency situation before, and has worked, and stopped the bleeding.
  • the tweezers will turn black when heated, don't use your best pair!
