Things You'll Need:
- Good trimming shears
- Comb
- Clip
-
Step 1
Separate your bangsSeparate your bangs from the rest of your hair. Use the clip to hold the rest of your hair back. Style your bangs as needed so they are straight.
-
Step 2
The first stepBring all of your bangs to the center, (the idea is to keep them flat, not bunch them like a pony-tail) and trim a small amount off the tip. Let the bangs go, and brush them down and repeat if necessary. This will create a face-framing bang. For a straight bang, go to the next step
-
Step 3
For straight bangs, part your bangs down the middle and comb one half to the side, between your eye and your temple. You should see a point at the end of the section. Trim the point off. Release and comb the bangs down and repeat if neccesary.
-
Step 4
For a softer edge to your bangs, Comb them straight up off of your face and use the tips of the scissors, cutting downward into the bangs (parallel to the hair) and "chip" away at the edge (less than 1/8 of an inch for each "chip")
-
Step 5
For a lot of texture (a very softened, broken edge, almost like layered) bring your bangs straight up, in a mo-hawk. You will see the shorter pieces in the front (they may fall out of your grip and that is okay) and some longer ones in the back. Cut about 1/8 of an inch off the back portion (cut straight or use "chipping" method as described above) then release the bangs to check them and repeat if neccesary.
-
Step 6
The final step is to comb your bangs straight down and cut away any stray hairs to perfect the shape. Shake your head to see if any more strays pop up and continue to comb and cut away the strays until they are perfect. During this final step, if you are looking for a sharp, straight bang, use your shears perpendicular to the bang, and for a softer bang, "chip" into the edge with the shears parallel to the bang.
