Step 1
Check road conditions by watching the local news or internet. Don't go out unless you absolutely have to leave the house.

Make sure your car is in good driving condition. If you don't have a dependable car, your risks of getting stranded are higher. The dangers of being stranded outside during cold winter months can be deadly. Make your car has had it's winter check up.

Step 3
Clean windows and mirrors entirely before driving.

Fill up your gas tank in case you are stranded you will have enough gas to keep your car running and warm until help arrives.

Accelerate, brake and turn slowly. Leave plenty of room between you and the next car. Bridges adn overpasses freeze first, so even if the ground temperature isn't as low as the air temperature, these areas will still freeze.

Step 6
Keep an emergency kit and cell phone in your car. Your emergency kit should include at least one blanket.

Step 7
Never leave your car running and unattended. Never leave a pet in your car during winter trips.
