Laptop Internet Connection

While the Blackberry Curve has it's own Internet connection, there are times when you will still want to use your laptop. With the right service selection from your carrier and the right software on your laptop, you can turn your Blackberry Curve into a modem for your laptop giving you a mobile internet connection also known as a laptop wireless internet connection. It won't be as fast as the T1 Internet connection in your office but it will work!

While the software is usually free to download from the Internet, there is generally a fee included in your monthly bill for this activity which is sometimes referred to as 'tethering'.

The setup is simple enough but sometimes things can go wrong and you don't even realize it.

After you set up the software on your laptop and successfully connect to the Internet using the modem capability of your Blackberry Curve, suddenly without warning you may find your Blackberry connection no longer working.

You won't find much in the way of technical support for issues pertaining to tethering a Blackberry Curve. You may get lucky on some of the technical forums but many of these products are too new for them to be addressed on the manufacturers' sites.

If you find that suddenly, without reason your Blackberry Curve is no longer able to function as a modem connecting your laptop to the Internet, the first thing you will want to do is backup all the data on your Blackberry Curve. The software you use to make the Internet connection generally includes the backup and restore feature you will want to use.

After backing up all the data in your Blackberry Curve, disconnect the Blackberry from the laptop and turn the Blackberry off.

Turn the Blackberry over and push the button to release the cover in the back. Slide the back off.

    • 5

Under the cover you will see the Blackberry battery sitting snugly inside the case.

    • 6

Gently lift the battery out being careful not to touch anything else back there! Wait one minute and put the battery back into the Blackberry making sure it is well seated in the case.

    • 7

Put the cover back on the Blackberry Curve and allow about five minutes for the Blackberry to re-start itself.

    • 8

Once the Blackberry is re-started you can tether it back to your laptop and try out your connection to the Internet.

Tips & Warnings

  • If this process does not work and you have checked and double checked your software settings, take your Blackberry Curve to your dealer and ask them to check your hardware for other problems.

  • Don't touch anything else inside the case while you are re-seating the battery.
