Customize Windows XP Desktop Folders

The default desktop folder is quite realistic in appearance when compared to a real manila folder. To distinguish your folders and make specific topics instantly recognizable, customize the Windows XP desktop folder to your liking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Windows XP
  1. Step 1

Highlight a desktop folder and right click the mouse button to customize it.

  2. Step 2

Click on “Properties”. A new dialog box will open. At the top of the Properties dialog box, click on “Customize”.

  3. Step 3

In the first section, click on the arrow on the drop down box and highlight “Pictures” or “Photo Album” to see a copy of pictures or photos in the album. Click on “Choose Picture” to select a specific graphic for the Windows XP desktop folder.

  4. Step 4

Click on “Change Icon” . Various icons will appear. Choose the icon you want to represent that desktop folder. For example, if your folder contains several pictures, click on the camera icon. Click “Apply” and then click “OK”. Your folder should no longer look like the traditional manila folder. It should now take the shape and appearance of a camera.

Tips & Warnings
  • Step 3 is optional. Step 4 will work without executing step 3.
