need to know how to clean an air filter on a lawn mower? I'll show you how, it does depend on whether your air filter is the paper type or the foam sponge type, I'll cover both in this article

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • oil and gasoline if it's the sponge filter type
  • a sink with running water if it's the paper type
  1. Step 1

if you have the sponge filter type, what I do to clean that is rinse it with gasoline to get all the old oil out, make sure to wear gloves, and then dowse it in new oil and then wring it out to get all the excess oil out

  2. Step 2

if you have the paper type filter, which I also have, I have rinsed it with soap under running water

  3. Step 3

this will give it some extended life, just make sure to thoroughly air dry it, you can also use a hair blower to dry it faster, hold it up to a bulb and look through it, is there light coming through it? If you can see light, then air can get through too

Tips & Warnings
  • wear gloves when dealing with gasoline, you can get nitrile gloves, if you don't have any, you can always put ziploc bags over your hands, more cumbersome, but it works

on 1/11/2009 My "husband" doesn't come equipped with an "air filtration" system (I couldn't resist, HE'S the one who CUTS our GRASS!) Besides, he rides around on his precious JOHN DEERE. Still, you get 5* for a great how to article.
