Instructions

    • 1

Slide the crown bolt into the eye of one of the screw bolts to ensure that it fits and the head catches the rim of the eye securely.

    • 2

Drill a pilot hole into the stationary part of the fence and the moving fence door on the interior side of the fence, 2 or 3 inches apart --- the halves of the latch mechanism will be attached here. Place the latch 2 to 3 feet above the reach of your tallest child for safety.

    • 3

Put on gloves, a breathing mask and safety goggles.

    • 4

Slip the last link of the chain onto the tip of one of the screw eyes and slide it up so that it fits above the threaded portion of the bolt, just under the eye. Use pliers to open the chain links if necessary.

    • 5

Slide the crown bolt into the opposite end of the chain.

    • 6

Apply cold weld compound to both unions -- that is, where the chain meets the bolts. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding application of parts A and B.

    • 7

Twist one bolt into each of the pilot holes. Rotate both bolts so that the eyes are horizontal.

    • 8

Latch the door by inserting the crown bolt into the eye screw on the opposite side of the door.

    • 9

Unlatch the door by lifting the crown bolt out of the eye and slipping it into the screw eye on the same side of the fence as the crown bolt.

Tips & Warnings

  • The screw eyes, crown bolt and chain must be of comparable strength for this latch to maintain its structural integrity.
