How to Write Postcards to Your Sunday School Class

Use a Pen to Write

One of the best ways to make a child feel good is to send her some mail. Why not make a habit of sending postcards to your Sunday school class, just to let them know that you are thinking about them and you care!

Things You'll Need

• Postcards
• Pen or permanent marker
• Stamps

Instructions

1. Choose postcards that are fun and colorful. These will make children excited about getting something in the mail. If you can find postcards with a Christian theme, that is even better. Visit Preschool Sunday School Central (link provided below in the Resources section) for a big selection of printable postcards for this very purpose.

2. Gather the names and addresses for the children in your class. Generally you can get this information from your church administrative office. Most all churches keep track of member and visitor information.

3. Write the postcards with a pen or permanent marker. Because postcards do not require envelopes when mailing, pencil markings can easily be smudged or erased in the mailing process. Be sure to use a pen or marker that won't bleed, should it happen to get wet. Nothing could be worse then for a child to receive a postcard that they cannot read.

4. Think about each child in your class as an individual, and be sure to highlight some of the qualities you find appealing about each child. Making the postcards personal will really mean you pay attention to each child, and know who they really are.

5. Place stamps on the postcards and mail them in a timely fashion. Some churches will provide the stamps, while some Sunday school teachers will have to do this at their own expense.

• Schedule to send out postcards at least quarterly, so you keep in touch with students on a regular basis.
