Things You'll Need:
- Credit Card
- Cash
- Dress Size
-
Step 1
If you are looking REALLY early, you may find last season dresses at more than 75$ off and big name retailers like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and Macy's. These retailers carry the popular labels and have fantastic clearance racks if you go the right time of year. The Fall is really the best time to get a prom dress off the clearance rack. If you happen to have a store coupon, even better! Macy's gives out coupons to their credit card customers often.
-
Step 2
Never overlook thrift or consignment stores for prom dresses. You may be surprised at what you find. You may even be able to find a dress with the original tags on it! The secret to finding the best dresses is to go to the thrift store in the wealthiest neighborhood...shhh...just keep that between me and you! Wealthy woman are more likely to get rid of a dress never worn or only worn once! Better yet, these dresses are designer dresses!
-
Step 3
Bridal shops are known for having a clearance rack in the back of the store or even in the basement. Be sure to check all the bridal shops in your area. You may actually find the perfect dress at a fraction of the original cost. These stores will also be able to tailor the dress to fit your body perfectly at an additional charge. You may even be able to haggle the price a bit more at a bridal shop since they tend to be independently owned.
-
Step 4
eBay and Craigslist are also great avenues for buying cheap prom dresses. Don't forget these two great spots!

on 4/15/2009 I've found that less and less boutiques are doing deposits for catalog orders. Most of them are wanting full price up front before they even place the order. That's gutsy! Suppose it doesn't work out. They've held my money for a week or so for no reason. Ugh, thanks for telling us how to find and buy cheap prom dresses./*****
