It's been one of those days. Don't let it get you down and follow these simple steps to getting out of that moody funk.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
No money is a big mood killer.
No money is a big mood killer.

First you need to find the core of your bad mood. Are the bills getting you down? Is that relationship not going the way you wanted it to? Worried about getting older? Sit quietly and ponder what it is that has gotten you into such a bad mood. Once it's identified, you can squelch most any bad-vibe causing factor.

  2. Step 2
Sort the situation out...like piles of laundry.
Sort the situation out...like piles of laundry.

Divide and conquer. Now that you've identified the "bad mood factors," you can mentally separate them into piles. Create a pile for things that you can do something about. Make another mental pile of things that you can't change. Unchangeable factors are prime brooding materials. When you've set the line between things you can change and things that you couldn't do a thing about...go onto step 3.

  3. Step 3

Let go. Take the pile of unchangeables, and throw them out the window. You can't do anything about it, so why let it get you down? Throw them out your mental window and move on. There are plenty of things that you can do something about. Everything else is just useless baggage. This step can be a little difficult. If you're having trouble with it, talk to someone. Practice meditation or seek the help of a counselor.

  4. Step 4

Get moving! Remember that pile of things you can do something about? Get going! Put together a game plan. Write a list. Anything you need to get yourself motivated. Depression is a downward spiral. It will pull you in if you don't keep pressing forward.

  5. Step 5

Do something nice for yourself. Go to a movie. Ask out a friend you haven't seen in a while. Catch up with family. Even if you don't have a lot of money, you can take a nice walk in the park, you can bake yourself a cake or go to the library and borrow a movie. Soon you'll be back to your old smiling self.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk to a friend. Tell them your woes, and listen to theirs in return. Sometimes dispensing advice is the best way to learn more about yourself.
  • Look for funny pictures on the internet! That's a great way to cheer up.
  • Chocolate is a great way to improve your mood. Try sugar-free chocolates...they taste just as good.
  • If you feel like you're in a depression that you cannot get out of, seek help immediately.
