Step 1
Decorate with wall hangings and tapestries. Instead of traditional portraits and paintings, consider a tapestry or wall hanging to decorate a wall. Wall hangings are easy to put up and are made in a wide variety of sizes and decors.
-
Step 2
Frame your stencils. You may never consider wall murals for your interior design, but stenciling designs and pictures on a wall and then framing them are a great way to incorporate your personalized colors, templates and designs into your home decor.
-
Step 3
Make a collage of the masters. While all of us may not be able to afford original artwork from the masters, using prints to make collages of fine artwork and placing it in a good quality frame can be a lovely way to decorate a wall. Whether you use one large collage or many small prints, be sure to use quality frames for a classic look.
-
Step 4
Try wainscot. If you like classic appeal, applying or installing wainscoting to an existing wall will add contrast and originality to a room. You don't have to place wainscot on every wall for it to have a decorative touch.
-
Step 5
Use local art. Local colleges and art schools will often have showings and sales to showcase artists. You can find some wonderful pieces at lost costs from these up and coming artists. And you never know that starving artist painting you purchased might be a future investment.

on 1/12/2009 These are great tips. I really like number 3. I have always wanted a large print of Monet. Now I will make a collage to get the same affect.
