How to Run a Football Defense: Twist
Like bingo, this is a stunt defensive play. Yet it is executed on the weak side of the offensive line. Initially, set the defense in a 4-4 formation.
Instructions
-
-
1
Position the right tackle in the gap between the center and right guard.
-
2
Set the left tackle in the gap between the left guard and tackle.
-
-
3
Position the left end head-up on the tight end.
-
4
Set the right end to block at the outside shoulder of the offensive tackle.
-
5
Start four linebackers 3 to 4 yards behind the line. Put one behind each tackle, and one 3 to 4 yards to either side of the ends.
-
6
Set two corners in your defense secondary, 7 yards off the line of scrimmage and opposite any receivers, usually the split end and flanker.
-
7
Leave a free safety 9 to 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage, between the center linebackers.
-
8
Send the right tackle into motion as the ball is hiked, having him cross the face of the right guard, slipping into the gap between him and the right tackle. This may draw the guard to the outside, away from the center.
-
9
Send the right-center linebacker simultaneously, having him rush forward to slide through the gap between the center and right guard. Take down the quarterback.

Tips & Warnings
A variation of this play is to set a 5-2 formation. The nose guard crosses to the strong side of the center, drawing him outside. The left-center linebacker then slips in the gap between the center and right guard.
Make sure the left end contains the tight end on the chance he goes for a pass. Your free safety can help here.
If the play succeeds, the quarterback will not have time to throw. But watch that he doesn't slip to the left and use his strong side to gain yardage.
