How to Make an Out of this World Low Fat Strawberry Smoothie
Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C, as well as potassium and folic acid, and are one of the tastiest ingredients to add to smoothies. However, these cool, creamy drinks are sometimes loaded with fat and calories, due to the dairy products and sugar that are added. But, you can make a smoothie that is low in fat and rich in strawberry flavor as a quick breakfast or cool snack with just a few healthy ingredients. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Blender
- Strawberries
- Knife
- Ice
- Low-fat yogurt or non-dairy yogurt
- Additional fruit (berries, peaches or citrus fruit)
- Healthy sweetener, to taste

Wash and cut the strawberries, taking off the green leaves at the top. It's best to cut the berries into halves or quarters, so they'll blend quickly.

Place the strawberries in the blender, along with a few large spoonfuls of low fat plain yogurt. Or, you can add berry-flavored yogurt to intensify the strawberry taste. If you want to eliminate even more of the fat by making a dairy-free smoothie, try a yogurt made from coconut or soy milk.

Add a few cubes of ice to the strawberries and yogurt to make the smoothie especially frothy.

Cover the blender and blend the berries, yogurt and ice together for a few seconds.

Turn the blender off and taste the smoothie. If you want more berry flavor, add a few more strawberries, or drop in a handful of raspberries or blueberries. To sweeten the smoothie, choose a spoonful of a healthy sugar alternative, like xylitol or agave nectar, to add to the smoothie. Blend the smoothie again with the new ingredients.

Pour the smoothie into a glass, and garnish it with a slice of strawberry. Enjoy!
