Step 1
step one, go down to your local recruiting office, if you are unsure where it is you can look it up on the internet, or check the number in the phone book to get it.
-
Step 2
step two, once your there talk to the recruiter, gather as much information as possible on the marines. everything from bootcamp to the fleet. daily life, possible duty stations, what type of physical and emotional demands will you go through. what your job will be. everything you can think of even if it sounds stupid.
-
Step 3
step 3 take the info home and THINK about what your about to do. ask yourself questions, can i do this? is it right for me? will i be able to be away from my family for possibly years at a time? can i leave behind freinds that i grew up with and go live all the way on the other side of the nation if need be? really ask yourself these questions and really really think about it before you take the next step.
-
Step 4
step 4 talk it over with your family, bring up everything that you have learned about it. ask them if how they feel about this. if they have any questions about it. talk it over with them. have them really really think about it. if nessesary have them meet the recruiter next time so they can ask them for themselves.
-
Step 5
once all this is done have the recruiter make up the contract, the contract is long and sort of confusing, but if you ask questions about it and have the recruiter explain it, it will be not to bad. READ throught the contract very carefully. make sure all the info in it is correct. WARNING: if you dont and you sign it and something is wrong, like your job isnt the right one you wanted or the amount of years on your contract is off YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT YOU WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT UNTILL THE CONTRACT HAS RAN OUT!!!! so make sure your signing up to do what you think you are signing up to do.
-
Step 6
step 6 going to a place called meps, there you will take the asvab test which is a general knowledge test about everything. remember different jobs require different scores on this test so if you dont get the minimum requirement score for your job, it can effect that on your contract. also for meps you do a medical exam, full physical, drug test blood test, eye exam, mental exam, it is the biggest medical exam you propbably will take in your entire life. usually takes 2 days. you have to pass all these tests and requirements to be eccepted. once you pass you get a cirtificate and a packet of some more info on the marines. you will get your shipping orders here as well these are the date you will go to bootcamp.
-
Step 7
after all this is done just get mentally prepared for bootcamp by learning bootcamp knowledge like general orders, rank structure, military time, etc. and get physically ready by doing mock pfts( physical fitness tests) you have to do 100 crunches in 2 min, do at least 3 pull ups and run 3 miles in under 27 min which isnt hard at all but its better to get ready so when you get to bootcamp you will find it a bit easier, and trust me you will want that. dont forget to spend some quality time with your family and friends, you might not be able to spend that much time with them once your in the military. forgive them for any type of problems the caused you and things like that and ask them to do the same. its alot better to go to bootcamp without stuff like that over your head and better for them to. trust me thats one of the biggest mistakes i made was not doing that with my family and it really got to me when i was there in bootcamp more than anything else. then when your date to ship out arives, you just go and do what you got to do. and thats how you join the marines! just remember know what you are getting into before you decide to sign up. this is a major life changing event.
