How to Dispose of Cooking Oil

Pouring cooking oil down the drain is not good for the plumbing and can cause problems later on. My father-in-law freezes his oil in a container and then throws it away. I use an even easier way to get rid of the oil. Here's my quick, clean and easy way to dispose of cooking oil! Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Crispy chicken

First, use as little oil as you will need to cook the food. Usually most food will cook with just a light coating of oil on the bottom of the pan. I also use a lid to trap the heat, so I can use less oil and so the food will cook more evenly. Especially when cooking chicken. Also, using a light olive oil or peanut oil for fried foods is a healthier option.

After cooking, take a couple of paper towels and wipe down the pan. If there is still some oil left, crumple the towel into a ball and allow it to fully absorb the remaining oil.

Take the paper towels and place into a small grocery bag. Tie a tight knot. This will prevent your kitchen garbage can from having any odors related to the cooking oil. Now place this bag into your large garbage bag, cover with a lid and voila...no more cooking oil and less mess!

Good, basic tips. Sometimes I take it outside to pour it on a week I want to kill.

My mother also freezes the oil to throw away later. Good idea using an extra bag to reduce old oil smells from the garbage.
