Digital music is the wave of the future. The sound quality is great, and there are more mp3 players available than ever before. Did you ever wonder how you could use Google, the most popular search engine, to search for free music online?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer
  • Internet connection
  • Software on your computer to play mp3s
  1. Step 1

Go to Google (http://www.google.com) and enter "free mp3" into the search box. Click search.

  2. Step 2

You can also go to Google and type your favorite song or artist plus "free mp3" if you want to narrow the search. For example, you can type in "Beyonce free mp3" or "Tomorrow free mp3".

  3. Step 3

Click on any of the first few links. You can search for a specific song, or artist.

  4. Step 4

    Make sure that the site doesn't require either of the following: a "special player" that you have to download to play the music; a "subscription" (meaning a fee);

  5. Step 5

Once you find a song you want, be sure to read the website's "Terms of Service" and if you agree with it, follow the instructions to download your new song.

  6. Step 6

If there are no instructions for downloading, just right-click the file name and select "save as" but each site is different.

Tips & Warnings
  • Nothing is free. Many of these sites are paid for by advertisers; while your mp3 is downloading it is good karma to click on some of the ads and check out what they are selling. It helps the site out and it is the least you can do for your free tunes.
  • You can use a site like http://t61.com to search for free music from new or under-marketed artists. It is a great way to get exposed to music you may not hear otherwise!
  • Don't give any personal information without understanding how it will be used. Many free sites want to add your email address to a list for advertisers, others want your credit card so they can charge you a monthly fee for all the downloads you want.
  • Make sure you read the "Terms of Service" for the site you want to download from. Sometimes the mp3s are for "preview" purposes only, others want you to subscribe.
