Instructions

    • 1

First determine if the reason your water isn't working is due to a frozen water line. To do this remove the bottom kick plate from the fridge to expose the water line.

    • 2

Next look for the small connector near the hinge of the freezer door and remove one side of the line from the connector.

    • 3

Now put the line in a bowl and press the water dispenser, if water comes out then you can deduce that your water line is frozen, move on to the next step. If no water comes out then you've got bigger problems.

    • 4

Now you need a small copper cord such as speaker wire or a small cable from inside an ethernet cable. Expose some copper at each end of the cable and run it up the water line until you run into a blockage.

    • 5

Now run a hairdryer on high directly onto the cord, trying to force the air up the water line. Do this for about 5 minutes.

    • 6

Now test your water, if done properly a chunk of ice will shoot out of the dispenser. If it doesn't work at first it is possible your line needs some more warming.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't get frustrated, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

  • Water and hairdryers don't mix. Be sure not to get the hairdryer wet!

I use a 1/8" plastic tube glued to a syringe. Draw in hot water into the syringe, insert the plastic hose into the water dispenser outlet as far as it will go (~4") to the typical freezeup point and inject hot water while pushing the hose (gently) into the frozen area as it melts the ice. I use a small syringe (NO NEEDLE!) and it usually takes about 5-6 'doses' of this medicine. You won't need to defrost the whole door this way!!! What I have heard is that a technician can install a little 1 amp heater to 'fix' this (different forum - Dan of Cincinatti). Questions are: Where is it inserted (drill hole in backside of door and hope you don't hit the hose itself?!?!?!?) and where was it powered from (the little control board for ice/water dispensing?)? and Finally of course, what little heater is used! As easy as 'dosing' the fridge with a syringe, I'm sick and tired of it!! Post an
