Things You'll Need:
- saw hammer tape measure, saw horses,
- screws, drill
- 1x6, 2x4, hinges
-
Step 1
Building your own wooden gate at home can be a very simple project as long as you get yourself set up right before you start this article will cover a example build as we go. To start measure the width of the gate needed and take 1" off, example we have a 34" wide and 48" tall opening we will make the gate 33"x47", then divide your width by the wide of the board your using, this example is using 1x6 and it is 5-1/2" wide, 33"/5-1/2=6,
-
Step 2
Next you want to lay out the needed amount of lumber on to some saw horses,(note if you can't get a even number of lumber for your measurement leave the gap in the middle and fill it in last after cross braces) Next cut your lumber to the right height place them tight together,(use a spacer if needed to make up for any space in the middle for the last cut) then measure from corner to corner making sure that you are in square, to be in square both measurements need to be the same. Run a 2x4 cross brace 6" up from the bottom and 12" down from the top placing 2 screws into each 1x6 into the 2x4 brace.
-
Step 3
Last flip over the gate and add any kind of rounded shape to the top if you would like or you can leave it box shape, add you hinges on where the 2x4 braces run across the back side. Last set your gate up into place, use something to give you a 1" rise off the ground and install the hinges to your post.
