1
Clean your face using cleansers formulated with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These substances help clean the face without being too rough on it. Still, wash gently; the amount of pressure you exert on your face ultimately determines how rough its skin will look.
-
2
Wash your face only with water. Soap and harsh cleansers can damage already-distressed skin. While the first few days of washing your face only with water may lead to a greasy feeling on your skin, your skin will adapt to the water treatment and feel as clean as it did with soap.

3
Keep your hands away from your skin. Transferring dirt and grime from your hands to your face worsens acne and causes infections, leading to flare-ups lasting longer periods.
-
4
Wear a hat that shades your face when you want to go out in the sun. Solar exposure causes the skin to dry out -- which can prolong healing and even worsen acne.
-
5
Use oil-free makeup and clean it away from your skin completely at the end of the day. Makeup can irritate acne, and prompt removal prevents it from irritating the sores.
