Things You'll Need:
- Blood pressure cuff or digital monitor
- Home blood pressure log
-
Step 1
Daily Blood Pressure LogYou'll need to have a daily blood pressure log that you can record your BP results, pulse, and any notes regarding medications. I've created one that tracks 2x/daily for two weeks. You can download free at Scribd.com (the link is listed below). A BP log is also an excellent tool for any home health caregiver, and an easy way to track whether they are providing consistent service to seniors or other loved ones that may be requiring outside help.
-
Step 2
If you have high blood pressure or hypertension, you need to check your BP regularly and keep in touch with a doctor. If your doctor has asked you to keep track of your blood pressure results, make sure to record on a daily basis. For some, it'll be necessary to check their BP twice daily.
-
Step 3
Before you measure your blood pressure, don't drink coffee or other caffeine, don't smoke or drink alcohol for at least 30 minutes prior to recording results. Take a few moments to sit still and quietly, feet uncrossed, with your back supported, before checking your pressure.
-
Step 4
Once you've filled up a daily log (or two), make sure to take it with you to your next dr.'s appoint and discuss the results. Home monitoring is an easy step you can take to managing high blood pressure. It can help you cut medical costs, inspire you to maintain a healthy diet, and help track your progress.
