Things You'll Need:
- Mid-grade coffee maker
- Whole Coffee Beans, flavor of your choice
- coffee grinder
- decent water
-
Step 1
Buy a coffee maker that will fit your needs and your budget. Consider using a permanent coffee filter. This enhances the flavor of your coffee by allowing more flavor to come through during brewing than a paper filter.
-
Step 2
Purchase a coffee grinder. Most types of coffee grinders will adequately do the job of grinding your coffee beans, so do a little research and find one that fits your budget. Using whole beans will greatly contribute to brewing a great cup of coffee.
-
Step 3
Purchase coffee beans. Choose a type and flavor that you prefer. Make sure you buy whole beans. Buy an airtight storage container for your coffee beans as well. This will allow you to use the beans for a much longer period of time and continue to brew a high quality cup of coffee.
-
Step 4
Wait to grind the coffee beans until you are ready to brew your coffee. Use a coarse ground, rather than a finely ground bean. This uses more coffee beans, but it gives you more flavor.
-
Step 5
Use the best quality of water you have available. Start with cool to cold water.
-
Step 6
Follow the instructions for your particular coffee maker.
-
Step 7
Enjoy your cup of freshly brewed coffee! The initial cost for the equipment may be a bit pricey, but you can save the money you would spend at coffee shops and gas to get there.
-
Step 8
Clean your equipment. Make sure you clean and properly maintain your coffee maker and coffee pot. This keeps your coffee tasting great and saves you money on equipment in the long run.

on 1/15/2009 I didn't know that about permanent coffee filters...my last one got a split in the side so I've been using paper ones. Maybe I should get another gold filter. LOVE my coffee! Thanks for the tip!
