Things You'll Need:

  • Resume
  1. Step 1

Visit Continental Airlines' website, upload your resume and apply for the job. To become a Continental Airlines flight attendant, you should have some customer service experience--make sure to play this up in your resume. It also helps if you have a college degree or have taken some college courses.

  2. Step 2

Wait to be contacted by Continental Airlines for an interview. If you are contacted, they will fly you to either Houston, Texas or Newark, New Jersey for an interview at their base. Make sure to dress in business casual attire while flying to their base. Since you will be flying on a stand-by basis, jeans or any sloppy attire are not permitted by the company. Besides, you never know if a recruiter will see you when you first get off the airplane.

  3. Step 3

Arrive at your interview site early. The interview will likely be held at the airport or the in-flight training center in Houston. Bring a fresh copy of your resume and, if possible, a letter of recommendation. If you know anyone who works in the airline industry, ask them to write you a letter of recommendation.

  4. Step 4

Smile frequently and attempt to talk to the other applicants, recruiters or others you come in contact with. The interview process consists of a group interview with up to 30 applicants. During the group interview, be sure to listen to the other applicants and nod your head appropriately. Do not interrupt the other applicants or the recruiters. Ask informed questions. If you pass the group interview, you will have two one-on-one interviews with several recruiters.

  5. Step 5

Emphasize any customer service experience you've had in the past when asked about your previous work experience. This can include anything from waitressing to working in retail. If you haven't had any customer service experience, emphasize any experience working with people. Avoid simply saying "I like working with people" or "I love to travel." If the interviewer asks you how you feel about living far from home, make sure to indicate that it wouldn't be a problem.

  6. Step 6

Wait to be notified whether you've passed the interview to the recruiter's satisfaction. If so, you will be invited to attend training in Houston. Since you aren't officially hired until you pass the month-long training session, it's important that you take the training period very seriously.

  7. Step 7

Be on time to training every day and be sure to study for your exams. You must pass all exams with 80 percent accuracy. You're allowed to retake one exam. If you fail more than one exam, you'll be asked to go home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dress in business attire for the interview. Hair and nails should be conservatively styled. Wearing a navy blue suit may help recruiters picture you in the Continental Airlines uniform.
