Things You'll Need:

Step 1
Crouton BreadPreheat your oven to the broil setting. If using a toaster oven, use the toaster setting.

While your oven is heating up, lightly toast as many slices of bread as you desire. I find that first setting on my toaster works well.

After the bread is toasted, place them on a baking sheet. Lightly spray a healthy cooking oil (like virgin olive oil) on top. If calories are of concern, you can use a quick spritz of a no-calorie oil spray.

Sprinkle a little of your favorite seasonings on top of the bread. (I like using garlic and parmesan cheese.)

Using a dull butter knife or a spatula, cut the bread into slices. Then cut each slice into pieces. (Cut the croutons pieces into the size you desire.)

Place the baking sheet with the prepared croutons pieces into the oven. Bake for 2-4 minutes, depending on how crispy you like your croutons. Set a timer to avoid burning the croutons.

Healthy CroutonsAfter the croutons are baked, turn off the oven and take them out. Garnish your salad with these homemade croutons, put them in your soup, or just enjoy them as a healthy snack.
