Cooking rice may seem simple, but there is actually a science to it. If you cook rice incorrectly it will either come out soggy or burnt. These easy to follow instructions will help you make perfect, fluffy rice everytime!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White Rice
  • Pot
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Add the desired amount of rice to your pot. You will want the pot to be large enough to account for the rice to expand. 1/2 cup of rice will normally serve 2.

  2. Step 2

Add water until the water is 1 inch above the rice.

  3. Step 3

Heat uncovered on high until the water comes to a rolling boil.

  4. Step 4

Reduce heat to medium-low and cover stirring occasionally.

  5. Step 5

Once the water has evaporated, check the texture of the rice. If the rice is too hard, add water and cook covered until the rice evaporates.

  6. Step 6

For flavor, you can add lime juice, salt, and cilantro.

  7. Step 7

Remove from heat when desired texture and flavor is reached. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes and then serve with main dish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adding too much water can cause the rice to be soggy. Some people like the rice this way though!
  • Be careful not to let the water boil over while it is covered.
