Things You'll Need:
- 8 cups of apple cider
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 8 whole cloves
- 1½ tsp ground allspice
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ whole orange
- ½ whole lemon
- Brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup to taste
-
Step 1
Add the apple cider, ground cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, orange, and lemon to a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.
-
Step 2
Once the cider begins to boil, reduce the heat, and allow the mixture to simmer for 20 to 25 minutes more to mull the spices.
-
Step 3
Use a strainer to separate the orange and lemon, seeds and cloves, from the liquid before serving. It may be necessary to strain the liquid more than once to remove all seeds, cloves, and leftovers from the mulling process.
-
Step 4
Pour the spiced apple cider into a bowl or pitcher before serving. Use caution, as the cider will be hot. Serve with brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup to taste. Article text © 2009 by urbandill. All rights reserved
