How to Buy TurboTax or TaxCut at the Best Price

TurboTax and TaxCut are probably the two most popular tax softwares on the market. As a result, their publishers rarely offer any discounts. There are ways to find less expensive ways to buy them, however. Here are some suggestions on how to buy TurboTax or TaxCut at the best price.

1. Make sure you buy the package that best fits your needs. If you have very simple taxes to file and you need little instruction, TurboTax offers a FREE edition. This is only for the federal software but if you don't require state tax software, 'free' is unquestionably the BEST price! The free version will not work for you if you have a mortgage, a business, donations, investment income, royalties, need car deductions or have any other more complicated tax issue. You can buy packages with or without state returns or with or without business help. Just don't pay for what you DON'T need.

2. Look for promotion codes or rebates.

3. Check comparative prices on the Internet. Occasionally, you might find a seller who is offering a special discount, though it seems to be the policy of even discount retailers to stick to the standard pricing.

4. Ebay sometimes has sellers who, some way or another, manage to get their hands on TurboTax and TaxCut products and offer them for a few dollars off. Ebay and Amazon.com are good ways to find previous years' software at good prices for people who are working on past taxes. Always verify your sellers wherever possible when buying from internet sellers. If you buy from someone who is dishonest, you are not likely to ever get your money back should you receive an inferior product.

5. Look for packaged specials where retailers offer their own brand rebates or specials.

6. And if you get a buying incentive card in the mail that offers money off on your next store purchase, this would be a good time to use it on a product like TurboTax or TaxCut which you aren't likely to find on sale all that easily anyway.
