Grout Ceramic Tile
Grout Ceramic Tile

The last step when installing ceramic tile is to grout the joints. There are mainly two types of tiling grout, cement-based and epoxy. In this case we’ll be using cement-based grout. The grout is mixed and applied to the floor using a grout float.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grout Float
  • Five gallon Bucket
  • Mixing tool for dril
  • Sponge
  1. Step 1

After the tiles have set up overnight you can now begin to grout the joints. First remove all of the tile spacers from the floor. Then mix the grout. Use a five gallon bucket and a mixing tool attached to a drill. Mixing the grout per the directions on the on the box. When mixing the grout add small amounts of water. You want the grout to be a peanut butter consistency. And only mix enough to spread in a short period of time, this stuff dries pretty quick.

  2. Step 2

Using a grout float force the grout into the joints. Hold the float at a 45 degree angle to the floor and spread the grout over the tile diagonally. Continue spreading until all joints are filled with grout.

  3. Step 3

Let the grout dry until a film begins to appear on the tile surface.

  4. Step 4

With a damp sponge wipe the film off all the tiles. Continually clean the sponge in a bucket of water and ring it out as you proceed. Then wait 15 to 20 minutes and repeat the process until the tile are completely clean.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t mix to much grout at one time. Once the grout starts to dry you cannot use it.
  • Avoid getting grout on your bare skin it will dry out your hands and could cause some irritation.
