If you want to get a good score on your SAT essay, and you are less than confident about your skills follow these steps to a stellar essay.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the topic completely. Many students end up missing points because they answer only part of the question.

  2. Step 2

Make a brief outline of your essay or a list of key points. This will help you to be clear while writing the essay.

  3. Step 3

Write your opening paragraph. This should show both an understanding of the question and a clear thesis. You need to establish your position on the topic in this paragraph.

  4. Step 4

Create follow up paragraphs for your key points. When possible use a fact, quote or story to support your positions as much as possible.

  5. Step 5

Tie up all your points and restate your thesis in the conclusion.

  6. Step 6

If you have time go back and check your essay for content, clarity, spelling and grammar.

Tips & Warnings
  • Attribute all facts and quotes as best you can.
