Sore throat is an irritant. It disturbs your sleep at night specially if it is accompanied by hard cough which usually it does. I usually apply heating compress at night when I have sore throat. It is easy to do it following these steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Handkerchief(thin one)
  • strips of cloth 3-4 inches wide and long enough to cover the neck.
  • vicks vaporub ointment
  • 2 safety pins
  1. Step 1

The first thing to do is to fold the handkerchief into 3-4 inches wide and so with the other cloth. Then set them aside.

  2. Step 2

Then put vicks vaporub in your hand and rub it around the neck of your patient. Be sure to put enough ointment in the throat area.

  3. Step 3

Then wrap the neck of your patient with the handkerchief be sure not to wrap it tight to make him comfortable. Then wrap it over with the other cloth and lock it with the safety pins. Be sure to cover the whole neck area with the cloth.

  4. Step 4

If you apply the compress at night time, leave it over night. If you do it at day time, leave the compress for 6-8 hours.

  5. Step 5

When you remove the handkerchief, rub the neck area with wet cloth and pat it dry. You can apply the compress twice a day depending upon how severe is the sore throat. The compress will also relieve coughing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure not to wrap the cloth tightly so that it will not interfere the blood circulation.
  • Flannel cloth is recommended to wrap the handkerchief on.
  • It is good to apply the compress at night time.
