Maybe you can manage your high blood pressure with diet and exercise or even regulate your high blood pressure with medications. For most women a pregnancy with high blood pressure is safe, but it is important to receive adequate medical care.

  1. Step 1

    In some cases women have high blood pressure before they are pregnant. There are different types of pregnancy high blood pressure. In some cases though, it is not developed until it is found in pregnancy. Recognizing the different types of High blood pressure will make you more aware of your condition, and what to look for.

    Blood pressure symptoms usually develop at 20 weeks of pregnancy or can last up to 12 weeks after delivery. Chronic hypertension is usually present before pregnancy, but is not detected until later.

    Gestational hypertension develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy, although it usually goes away after delivery. Sometimes, though it may increase chances of developing chronic hypertension or high blood pressure.

  4. Step 4

    Preeclampsia hypertension in is developed sometimes after having either chronic hypertension or gestational hypertension. It is the most serious pregnancy complications of the three different hypertension or high blood pressure problems. There is an increase in blood pressure, and protein in the urine up to 20 weeks after pregnancy. If preeclampsia is left untreated it can sometimes become fatal for baby or mother.

  5. Step 5

    During pregnancy, it is important to get treatment for high blood pressure symptoms staying in close contact with your doctor. There is still a risk of associated heart attack or stroke, so it is important to take high blood pressure prescribed medicine, and don’t start or stop taking medications without doctors approval.

  6. Step 6

    Always consult your doctor about any medications you take during pregnancy, as anything you take can have a effect on the baby. Some medications considered safe before pregnancy aren’t necessarily safe during pregnancy. Try to keep up a pregnancy exercise routine for good health during pregnancy.

  7. Step 7

    Before pregnancy planning it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor or cardiologist to see how well you’re managing your high blood pressure symptoms. They will evaluate your situation make recommendations if they think there should be changes made to accommodate an upcoming pregnancy. Learn to take care of yourself before pregnancy so you won’t have problems, and pregnancy sickness.
