How to Prevent Chair Legs from Tearing through Their Rubber Tips
The rubber tips on the bottoms of chair legs are great. They keep the legs from scratching the floor and also make the chair less likely to slide when you sit down in it. Unfortunately, they are also easy to rip up and ruin so your chair ends up ripping through your linoleum or marring your tile. Luckily for us, it is really easy to make the rubber pieces so they don't tear through right away and will last a lot longer. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the the rubber tips from the chair legs.
-
2
Take a rubber tip with you to a home improvement store and select a washer that fits right down inside of the rubber tip. Try and get it as close to the actual diameter of the inside of the tip as possible. Buy 4 for each chair you want to replace the tips on. Also buy new rubber tips if the old ones are not good.

3
Lay your chair on its back so you can get to the bottom of the legs easily. Make sure the washer will fit inside the rubber tip and then coat it with a bit of super glue if desired. This will help the whole thing stay together better but will make it harder to replace eventually so use your own discretion.
-
4
Slip the rubber tip with the washer inside it over the bottom of the chair leg. If the rubber is loose and looks to fall off you can add a bit of glue to the inside of the rubber to make it stay on better.
-
5
Do this again for each chair leg until they all have rubber tips on them and then you're done. The washer inside the rubber tip will distribute the pressure from the weight of the chair and person sitting in it over a wider area and prevent the major cause of those rubber tips failing, which is the thin edges of the bottom of the chair legs slicing through the rubber. The rubber tips should last a much longer time now.

Great idea! I have tried felt pads, but they don't prevent the chair from sliding, and they don't stay on very well. Thanks. -
