Cats like to play and sometimes you get slashed with their claws in the process of the the game. Cat scratches can become terribly infected if not treated right away so get on the ball with the simple truth. Don't get cat scratch fever.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Suds and Bubbles: The instant you become snagged by the furry pawed kitty run to the sink, Suds up with warm water and Disinfectant soap. There has been reports regarding soft soap as being an aid in preventing staff infection. So suds up.

  2. Step 2

Blot and towel dry the cat scratch, apply a balm like neosporin to the cat scratch adn cover with a band aid if you so desire. Otherwise the air wont hurt it in fact it will cause the blood to coagulate and the wound will dry quicker. Soon there will be no more cat scratch.

  3. Step 3

Take a 100% pure cotton ball and dab the infected area with witch hazel periodically. This will open up the pores and clean out the wound. You can use rubbing alcohol as well though witch hazel is less extreme. This method is especially helpful if the cat scratch is on a part of the body that cant easily be dunked into the sink, and washed like your face.

  4. Step 4

As long as you keep your wound clean it will heal.

on 4/5/2009 I could be funny and say the best way to treat cats scratches is to get a dog. I had to do that in the long run if I wanted a pet. I used to have cats and when ever I got scratched I had real bad reactions.

on 1/10/2009 Great practices! My 14 year old daughter has been around cats all her life, this past year, she had to h have a biopsy done on lump on her neck, they thought it was cat scratch, but the lumps wouldn't go away...we still don't know what they were, other than they were NOT cancer! Do what this article says and "Don't get cat scratch fever". 5*'s

on 1/10/2009 I didn't know about witch hazel. I usually end up putting antibiotic cream on mine.
