A Remembrance Garden is a wonderful and meaningful way to recognize someone special. Weather it be a family member or a beloved pet, planting a favorite tree or shrub in someone's memory will always make you think of them.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    A TREE PLANTED IN HONOR

    A TREE PLANTED IN HONOR

In today's world families are so scattered that a family cemetery is unheard of. But that's the way it used to be, on a families property there would be a plot or garden where all those who had come before, were layed to rest. The area was always fenced off and trees and flowers were planted in memory. Instead of a family cemetery you could have a remembrance garden where you could plant something that was a favorite of the departed.

  2. Step 2
    A MESSAGE FOR REMEMBERANCE

    A MESSAGE FOR REMEMBERANCE

It would be best to have a small area that would be designated as your remembrance garden. Fencing would be optional depending on kids or pets. If space allows, plant a tree in honor of a departed family member, you could add a favorite flower to the base of the tree. You can now purchase large river rocks that can be inscribed with a name and date or even a fitting saying. These stones are appropriate and do represent that the spot is in memory of a loved one.

  3. Step 3
    ALWAYS REMEMBER A BELOVED PET

    ALWAYS REMEMBER A BELOVED PET

I believe it is important to remember the pets that our family has had thru the years. A inscribed stone in the shade of a large shrub will always remind you of your family pet.

  4. Step 4
    A INSCRIBED BENCH

    A INSCRIBED BENCH

You may want to have a bench in your remembrance garden to sit and reflect. Many families remember an older member sitting in the sun and will purchase a bench and have it inscribed with a name and date. Having a garden such as this can be important for young children who never knew a Grandmother, but could sit with you and hear stories about her. Keeping the memories alive of departed family and pets should be a part of the history of each and every family.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you still have Grandparents alive or Aunts and Uncles, don't wait to find out what their favorite tree or flower is. Ask now so you can plant something that the person loved. If your handy you can make your own inscribed stones, if not simply google inscribed stones.
