Nasal rinse kits such as the Neti Pot and NeilMed systems include salt mixtures packets which need to be mixed with luke warm water prior to rinsing. These packets are also sold separately from the pot or squeeze bottle so you can replenish your supply of solution mixtures once you run out. Unfortunately the packets can be quite expensive. Luckily there is an easy method for creating your own packet mixture each time you need to rinse out your nasal passages. Below are simple instructions for creating your own salt mixture to be used with either the Neti Pot or NeilMed systems.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need:

Mix 1 tbsp of Sea Salt or non iodized salt with 1/2 tsb of baking soda. It is important to use non iodized salt. If you use salt with iodine in it, the mixture will burn your nasal passage.

  2. Step 2
    Neti Pot

Fill Neti Pot or NeilMed bottle with luke warm water and add the mixture from step 1 to the water.

  3. Step 3

Stir or shake salt solution thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best salt to use is simply natural sea salt, which can be purchased at almost any grocery store.
  • Do not use iodized salt. Make sure to only use non iodized salt, such as natural sea salt.
