Use Salt for More Than Seasoning

Wow! I never knew you could do so many things with table salt. There is more to salt than meets the tastebuds. Read on to find out more.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Salt
  • Lemon juice
  • Cloth
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Glass
  • Knife
  1. Step 1

Remove Rust. Salt can be used to remove rust from metal. Combine a tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply this mixture to the rust area with a cloth. Rub the mixture into the rust. Rense and dry completely.

  2. Step 2

Gets Rid of Ants. Sprinkle salt where ants are and this will cause them to flee in another direction.

  3. Step 3

Removes Fish Scales. Soak fish in salt water and the scales can be removed much quicker. This can save a lot of time.

  4. Step 4

Use as an Egg Tester. If you have eggs in the refrigerator and you can't remember how long they have been there, fill a glass with salt water. Drop the eggs in the solution. An old egg will float to the top of the glass. If the egg is still fresh it will go to the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Melting of Snow. Table salt works to melt snow from steps and walkways during a snow storm. Remember that the amount of snow determines the amount of salt you need to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Salt is relatively inexpensive so keep several boxes on hand for these purposes.
  • Be sure to add enough salt to effectively remove the snow from sidewalk and step areas.
