How to change your desktop background in Windows XP

In this article you will find out how to change your Microsoft Windows XP desktop background.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A desktop PC running Windows XP.
  1. Step 1

    Find an empty space on your desktop of your computer.

  2. Step 2

    Place your cursor on the empty space and right click.

  3. Step 3

    Once you have right clicked choose properties.

  4. Step 4

    The "Display Properties" Dialog box opens, and has 5 tabs at the top.
    *Themes
    *Desktop
    *Screen Saver
    *Appearance
    *Settings

  5. Step 5

    Next click on the DESKTOP tab.

  6. Step 6

    Here you can scroll down and look through all of the default Windows backgrounds. **If you do not like any of the windows default backgrounds you can click the BROWSE button and chose a picture of your own.

  7. Step 7

    Once you have chosen the picture you want for your background click on it so it is "highlighted" in gray and your image shows up in the computer monitor in the dialog box.

  8. Step 8

    After you have selected your image you may now hit apply and your image should be displayed on your desktop.
