Should you have a close encounter with a coyote, behave in the following manner for the best outcome to this meeting. Coyotes can be found in almost all areas of the United States. including both the country, and urban areas.

  1. Step 1

    Give the coyote space. Do not approach the coyote. The animal will most likely set the space between itself and whatever it may perceive as a threat. By approaching or shortening that distance you may make the animal ill at ease.

  2. Step 2

    Put pets on a leash. You are not perceived by coyotes as prey, but your little dog may look quite tasty to them. Place your dogs on a leash around coyotes so your pet will not be enticed to chase after the animals. The closer your pet is to you the safer it is.

  3. Step 3

    Enjoy your encounter. This is your chance to observe a wild animal. Although not extremely large or ferocious, coyotes are interesting to observe. They are often found in small groups, allowing you to observe the interaction of individuals.
