The edge of a cereal box can be transformed into a very useful magnetic bookmark. The cereal box will make the bookmark sturdy, while the magnetic aspect will keep the bookmark in place. No more losing your page because your bookmark fell out!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cereal box or other cardboard box
  • scissors
  • decorative scrapbook paper
  • glue of Modge Podge
  • paintbrush
  • magnet tape
  1. Step 1

Find an old cereal or snack box that you are no longer using. The edge of the box has a natural crease that will work well to make these bookmarks.

  2. Step 2

Cut a small square or rectangle with the edge of the box forming the crease. This way you will have a front and a back to the bookmark with the box edge forming the natural crease that will go along the edge of the book page.

  3. Step 3

If the graphics on the cereal box are interesting enough for your taste, you can skip this step. If you want to customize the bookmark, cut a piece of scrapbook paper that will cover the outsides of your bookmark. Mix a small amount of white glue with water or use Modge Podge to decoupage the paper onto the bookmark. Cut off the extra paper with scrapbook scissors to make an interesting edge.

  4. Step 4

Cut two small lengths of magnet tape. Peel off the paper backing of one of the magnets. Place it near the bottom edge of one side of the bookmark. Place the other piece of magnet tape on top of the first one so they are properly aligned. Peel the paper backing off of this piece of magnet tape. Close the bookmark and press to make sure the second magnet piece adheres to the bookmark.

  5. Step 5

Once your bookmark is dry, separate the magnets, slip the bookmark over the edge of your page, and close the bookmarks so the magnets close.
