How to Make a Magnetic Bookmark From a Cereal Box

The edge of a cereal box can be transformed into a very useful magnetic bookmark. The cardboard of the cereal box will make the bookmark sturdy, while the magnetic aspect will keep the bookmark in place. No more losing your page because your bookmark fell out!

Things You'll Need

• Cereal box
• Scissors
• Decorative scrapbooking paper
• Decoupage glue like Mod Podge
• Paintbrush
• Magnet tape

1. Find an old cereal or snack box that you are no longer using. The edge of the box has a natural crease that will work well to make these bookmarks.

2. Cut a small square or rectangle with the edge of the box forming the crease. This way you will have a front and a back to the bookmark, with the box edge forming the natural crease that will hug the edge of the page.

3. If the graphics on the cereal box are interesting enough for your taste, you can skip this step. If you want to customize the bookmark, cut a piece of scrapbooking paper that will cover the outside surfaces of your bookmark. Mix a small amount of white glue with water or use a decoupage glue like Mod Podge to glue the paper onto the bookmark. Cut off the excess paper.

4. Cut two small lengths of magnetic tape. Place the magnets along the bottom edges of the bookmark, so that there is one on each side of the crease. Make sure the magnets are aligned so that they catch and hold together when you fold the bookmark.

5. Separate the magnets, slip the bookmark over the edge of the page, and press the bookmark over the page so the magnets close.
