Things You'll Need:
- Storage Bags
- Transportation
- Open mind

Step 1
The first thing to do is overhaul your kitchen with items that are unhealthy. Remove 80% of the high fat, high calorie comfort foods and make an honest commitment to a life of better living. Save a few choice sweets for those moments that are inevitable. Now that your pantry and fridge is empty head to the local market.
-
Step 2
Stock up on rice, brown is better, and legumes(black, kidney, pinto, navy, lentil beans). Buy the largest bag you can afford, it will last awhile, then buy dry beans if you are really stretching the wallet or canned if you are okay on funds. Next head to the produce department.
-
Step 3
In the produce department, stock up on green peppers, mushrooms, onions, zucchini, peas, green beans, and any other vegetable you can chop up and freeze. Buy green leafy vegetables fresh and cut them yourself, but only buy enough to last a few days. Buy a seven day supply of fruit (1-2 for each day)and go for the items that are on sale. Now you are ready to hit the butcher block.
-
Step 4
Grocery day will be your splurge day for meat. Buy the best cut you can afford for dinner that night and look forward to next weeks visit to the grocer. Buy your dairy items (milk, eggs, yogurt, cheese) and head to the checkout with any and all coupons, discount membership cards, etc. Browse the spice and marinade aisle and pick up something that will keep your groceries exciting for the palate. Head home with your head high.
-
Step 5
Cut up all your vegetables and put some in storage baggies for quick stir fries or casseroles and leave some fresh in your fridge for quick snacks. Make a budget of eating out funds and if you must go to a fast food restaurant, opt for a salad or fruit cup to tide you over until your next healthy meal. Do this for a four weeks straight and you will not only build a healthy eating habit but save hundreds of dollars in wasted money that either sits in your pantry or ends up on your love handles.
