How to Make a Classic Three Bean Salad
The classic three bean salad is a family favorite. This tasty side dish is packed with fiber and protein. Mix up a three bean salad for a picnic or bring it to a party. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- For salad:
- 1 lb. fresh or frozen green beans
- 2 cups kidney beans
- 2 cups chickpeas
- 1 lb. wax beans
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- For dressing:
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup vinegar
- 1/3 cup oil
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- Dash of pepper (optional)

Prepare and wash the beans. During the washing process, remove stems and break beans into 1/2-inch pieces. Skip this step if using frozen beans.

Steam the wax beans in the microwave for 5 to 6 minutes.

For dry chickpeas and kidney beans, rinse well in cold water. Place chickpeas and kidney beans in separate medium saucepans with 6 cups water each. Bring to a rapid boil. Continue to boil for 60 to 70 minutes with occasional stirring. For canned chickpeas and kidney beans (which are already cooked), simply drain and rinse with cold water.

In a large serving bowl mix together green beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, steamed wax beans, onion and green pepper.

In small bowl mix together the dressing ingredients. Pour over bean mixture.

Tips & Warnings
Best if refrigerated overnight.
This is a great recipe for children to help make.

Beware of danger due to potential for burns with steam and boiling hot water.
