Lighten Hair Naturally Without Dye
Lighten Hair Naturally Without Dye

One of the tried and true methods of lightening hair naturally without depending on harsh chemicals and dyes is by using lemon juice. Whether fresh squeezed or from a bottle, the acid in lemon juice causes the dark pigmentation in a hair strand to break down, making hair lighter. Another way to lighten hair naturally without dye is by using chamomile flowers. These flowers also have lightening agents in them that gradually make hair a lighter shade.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lemon juice, fresh squeezed or from a bottle
  • Chamomile flowers
  • 1 gallon of water

    Using Lemon Juice

  1. Step 1

Mix 1 or 2 tbsp. of lemon juice with a liter of water. You may want to use more lemon juice and water depending on the length and thickness of your hair. This diluted mixture will keep the acidity in lemon juice from drying out your hair too much.

  2. Step 2

Wash your hair and towel it dry.

  3. Step 3

Rinse your damp hair with the lemon juice and water mixture.

  4. Step 4

Comb through your hair to ensure that the mixture coats every strand.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the process every time you wash your hair or until desired lightening is achieved.

  6. Using Chamomile Flowers

  7. Step 1

Steep a cup of chamomile flowers in boiling water for a few hours.

  8. Step 2

Let the mixture cool completely before applying it to your hair.

  9. Step 3

Wash and towel dry your hair.

  10. Step 4

Pour the chamomile mixture over your hair about 10 times, or until the entire mixture has been used up.

  11. Step 5

Allow the mixture to set for about 20 minutes before washing it out completely. Repeat this process on a weekly basis until desired lightening is achieved.

Tips & Warnings
  • For the quickest results, sit out in the sun for a few minutes after applying either mixture into your hair.
  • Test out the mixture on a small strand of hair before applying it to your entire head of hair.
