Don't throw your clothes out the window!

A laundry room is a utility room that gets used for a purpose and can often be ignored when it comes to updates and organization. Take advantage of your laundry room space by utilizing shelves, cabinets, and other organization tools. Start to enjoy your laundry room and avoid dreading it!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

RISE TO THE OCCASION - Putting your washer and dryer on risers has only recently grown in popularity since the front-load systems have been introduced. But you can take advantage of under appliance space even without the front-load washers and dryers. You may not be able to raise them as high but you will be able to use several inches of space for drawers. These drawers can hold your cleaning rags and old towels. Look in your local appliance centers for shelving and drawer units. If you are skilled in carpentry, go to your local wood supply store and create some personalized drawer-risers for your washer and dryer.

  2. Step 2

USE YOUR WALL SPACE - Wall space is prime real estate in any room and it is even important in your laundry room. There are two ways you can use your wall space - shelving and/or hanging rod. A hanging rod is an excellent way to keep your clothes wrinkle free right out of the wash. It is also is a fantastic way to hang clothes hangers. Shelving can be easily purchased at any home store for relatively little cost. Shelves are a great place to store your cleaning supplies especially if you have young children in the house who cannot reach higher storage areas. You can also purchase hanging rods with shelving supports so you can double your wall use.

  3. Step 3

BETWEEN THE STUDS - Many people forget that there is a plethora of space available within your walls! Home stores sell shelving units that can easily be installed between two studs. This is a fantastic option for those who have small laundry rooms with limited space for protruding shelving or cabinets.

  4. Step 4

ADD A CABINET OR TWO - Cabinets are another great option for storage space because they can stand alone on the floor or they can be mounted on a wall. Cabinets come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and you can almost always find something that will fit where you need it.

  5. Step 5

THE SMALL STUFF - Laundry rooms can be home to numerous small items like stain-erase pens, brushes, combs, rags, and other cleaning tools. Purchase some see-through containers at your local organization or home store to keep all of these items together. Store the containers on your newly installed shelving or cabinet units to provide easy access.
