Not being able to get enough sleep is an exasperating problem some people have to deal with on a nightly basis. One of the most destructive things to a person's over all health is not being able to get enough rest. Recognizing the symptoms of sleep disorders is a start to treating this destructive nightly nuisance. Want to find out how to overcome some of these tiresome sleep disorders? Here's how...

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comfortable bed
  1. Step 1

Sleep Apnea is due to several factors and the most obvious include
surplus weight, and alcohol usage. People who get this sleep disorder are not getting enough oxygen during sleep. There is a constricting of the wind pipe thus causing a stoppage of breath to occur. You can start treating this by physically getting in better shape, and reduce alcohol consumption.

  2. Step 2

Insomnia - Although not scientific, a speculative argument for what causes insomnia more often than any other symptom is anxiety. Chronic insomnia is pitiable sleep and can last more than a month. Anything such as noise, medication, restless leg syndrome, mental disorder, or physical pain can cause this sleep disorder. To treat insomnia it's important to diagnose the major cause as either a mental or physical symptom. A doctor should be consulted for treatment because it could involve medication. Mostly by removing the physical or mental distraction will immensely help overcome this problem.

  3. Step 3

Restless Leg Syndrome is an irritating sensation in the leg which feels like pin pricks or needles. Out of all the sleep disorders, this is the easiest to immediately relieve by physical stimulation. If you continually are aggravated by Restless Leg Syndrome you should consult a physician.

  4. Step 4

There are a number of sleep disorder treatments avaliable and a quick search on the internet will provide you with ample suggestions. An excellent resource on sleep disorders has been provided below. If you are continually deprived of sleep because of any of these disorders and have tried home remedies and nothing works, it is always best to consult a physician for advice.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take a vacation.
  • Listen to soothing music.

  • Take a walk
  • Get a massage.
  • Only take medication prescribed by a physician.
  • Pills and medication can actually enhance the cause of some sleeping disorders.

on 11/12/2009 I have had trouble sleeping since I was in highschool. One major thing that works with me is having down time before bed. I have to have unwind time. I can not go from doing dishes and dealing with kids to snoozing. Also, it has to be cold in my room. Don't believe me... aske my husband, he is the one who can be found in 2 layers of clothes. =P
